There are many problems in stray dog relationships. Humane and effective solutions must be found for these.

In ‘The Truth Bites’ (IE, March 21), Abi T. Vanak makes a number of assertions that need to be disputed. He writes, “Even worse, rabies kills over 20,000 people each year due to dogs.” He likely refers to the 20,000 people who pass away from rabies each year.

Since 2005, the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) of the Union government has published an annual National Health Profile for the nation.

The 2021 edition reports that 105 cases of rabies-related human fatalities occurred in India in 2019. The 2018 edition reported 97 in 2017. It was reported that 86 people died from rabies in 2016, 113 did so in 2015, 125 did so in 2014, and 132 did so in 2013, according to the pertinent preceding annual National Health Profiles.
